A successful wedding reception is like a perfect wedding cake. It looks great, it tastes great, and most of all it is something that everyone will remember. If one of the important ingredients in the cake is missing, it will be a complete failure.
How many times have you gone to a wedding reception and remembered how bad the cake was? I can remember 25 years ago listening to my relatives talk about a reception and how bad something was - the cake, wedding dress, food, band, disc jockey, etc. People love to talk about the negative things at events. But they also like to talk about the positive things for many years after!
When looking for a great Disc Jockey start looking no less than 1 year in advance. I’ve booked wedding events 30 months before the event. Ask for references and don’t make a decision on one opinion. Ask if you can peek in at a wedding and see for yourself. I have asked several would-be clients to come and see me in action. Most of the time if you give a heads up to the event you’re doing, they usually don’t mind.
Sit down with the prospective DJ and talk about your event and ask for suggestions. If you are uncomfortable with the DJ’s suggestions, don’t be afraid to speak up. This is your wedding and the DJ will be working for you. An experienced DJ will have the experience and expertise to help make your wedding what you want it to be.
Ask the DJ what other type of events he or she has performed. If they say they only do weddings, you might have a problem without knowing it. A great DJ can do any event without batting an eyelash! I personally have performed at almost any type of event you can imagine. A well rounded DJ can turn a mistake at your event into a memorable moment.
Last but not least, hiring a DJ on price alone can be a tragedy. In this profession you usually get what you pay for. Remember - a DJ can make or break your event.
