What Happens On Your Wedding Day. Wedding General Party Tips
This blog will address a subject that is often overlooked. We will have blogs about what gets you to this day, but it’s a good idea to have a mental picture of where you’re going.
We will setup a timetable of events to give you a base to plan your wedding day. This timetable will need to be adjusted for the venue that you are using and/or for the venue’s format. Again this is a suggestion and should be used as a starting point to understand and picture your wedding day events.
We will assume that your reception is scheduled for 5 hours (7:00 PM – Midnight). This timetable will start at your ceremony.
5:30 PM Ceremony scheduled to begin. Ceremonies usually run from 30 minutes to 45 minutes. Do not plan on your ceremony starting at exactly 5:30 PM. Allow 10 – 15 minutes leeway. With the allowance and actual ceremony time your ceremony should be completed by 6:30 PM.
6:30 PM – 7:00 PM Travel time to your reception facility.
7:00 PM – 8:00 PM Cocktail hour and formal photographs.
The first hour of your reception is usually the cocktail hour for your guests. Depending upon your choice they may be enjoying cheese, crackers, dip, and other appetizers.
Formal photographs. While your guests are enjoying the cocktail hour this is a good time for your photographer to take your formal pictures. It is a good idea to let your photographer know how much time is scheduled for you formal pictures. Your photographer should be able to schedule additional photos (if necessary) for later in the reception. Another important note to be mentioned here; if your bridal party and parents are not traveling with you to the reception make sure they know to go directly to the reception. If members of your bridal party are late arriving at the reception it can delay your reception and members of your bridal party may be missing in the pictures.
8:00 PM – 8:15 PM Introductions, First Dance, Grace, Toast.
After your formal photographs are completed the bridal party is lined up for introductions. You are the last to enter the reception. This is usually the best time to have your first dance. You will dance to a song of your choice. You can dance alone for the entire song or you can have the bridal party join you on the dance floor after a few minutes of the song. Another option is for you to dance to your song and have a separate song for the bridal party to join in. This is an excellent time for your photographer to get pictures of your bridal party dancing together. After the dance everyone is invited to their seats. If a grace is to said this is an ideal time for that. After grace if there is going to be a toast this would be an appropriate place to have it. After the toast dinner will start.
8:15 PM – 9:00 PM Dinner Begins - First Courses.
The first courses of the dinner are served. During this time if your guests care to dance between the courses they are invited to the dance floor. When you did your first dance upon your entrance, you opened the dance floor for your guests.
9:00 PM – 9:15 PM Cake Cutting and Parent Dances. Before your main course is served the cutting of the cake is done. You will cut the cake to a song of your choice. After the cake cutting if you are going to have dances with your parents this is a great time to do it. After the parent dances your main course is served.
9:15 PM – 9:30 PM Your main course is served.
9:30 PM – 11:00 PM Desert, Dancing and Mingling.
This is time for you to dance, visit with people, or just do what you want. Most important – enjoy yourself.
11:00 PM – 11:05 PM Bouquet and Garter.
If you are going to toss your bouquet and/or garter, this is a good time to do it. If you are not going to do the toss, keep partying.
11:15 PM – Change of Clothes.
If you are planning to change your clothes before leaving this would be the time to do it.
11:40 PM – Last Dance.
You can do your last dance at this time if you want leave before your guests or you can do it at this time and stay till the end. You can also do your last dance as the very last dance of the night.
Midnight – Adjournment.
Drive carefully or take your limo.
This is by no means the only schedule to follow it is just an example to give you something to picture in your mind. Your timetable will be dependent upon your venue and most importantly what YOU want.
Our blog will be addressing the topics mentioned here and others to help you in your planning.
