Wedding DJ's Aren't All The Same All Events General Party Tips
Thank goodness right – I mean if wedding dj’s were all the same then every wedding would be virtually the same and quite frankly, I think that would get really boring really quickly!
In my honest opinion, and we all know about those, I think that we (the Wedding DJ) has a little tougher job than many people, including clients, understand or give us credit for. Why you ask – well it’s simple, the good ones spend time (some more than others) on each of their clients events doing a couple of things – not the least of which is getting to know the client at least on some level! That makes a huge difference when a performer is trying to create a memorable time for the wedding’s guests! Don’t get me wrong, anyone can have a good night (by good I mean, playing all the right songs at the right moment, etc…) and I LOVE those – but going into an event knowing that you are going to have a good night takes time and preparation!
I addition to getting to know the client a little better, the Wedding DJ is also getting to know some of the bridal party in some cases – perhaps spending time with them working on a custom song or dance, or even voice work for a special moment that the bride wants to have for her father (doing one of those now, and it is very cool!). The point is that a Wedding DJ, a good one, brings a lot to the table and can be an invaluable resource for not only the tasks that he/she are performing, but they also have relationships with other vendors that you can gain access to when you become a client.
“… this guy is JUST a Wedding DJ…”
About a year ago I had another DJ pay me an awesome compliment – I was hired by a local kids party place to help them out with a teen dance night because the regular DJ was not able to make a particular date. The venue advised the DJ of their action and apparently there were some rude comments made and he decided to take this event to a different location within the same town – he did a little research on me and during the teen dance night, flashed a picture of me up on his big screen the week before the event where I was performing and told the teens look – this guy is just a Wedding DJ, well, to his credit he was able to sway a bunch of teenagers and get them to NOT come to the event where I was performing… I thought it was childish and petty on his part and I really didn’t like being caught in the middle of their squabble. Nonetheless, I took what he told the kids as a compliment event though none of them showed at my event! Why – because I know that he would have a hard time doing what I do! Kids are relatively easy to entertain, they typically just want a pounding beat and aren’t really concerned with a lot of interaction from the DJ.
That is probably why I like doing Weddings so much, each one is a challenge and each one deserves a high level of professionalism! I don’t want to be known as just the guy who comes and plays music, I want people to have a memorable experience, one that I help create, one that will get them to refer me, one that will get them to want to hire me for any of their other upcoming events, weddings, corporate gigs, parties, etc! So yeah I am typically more expensive from just a cost standpoint, but I guarantee you the best value! After all, my reputation is on the line too!
So just in case you didn’t get the point of this post, you need to hire a professional Wedding DJ for the best result on your big day!
