How to Choose the right DJ for your wedding Wedding How To / Instructional
How do I choose the DJ that is right for my Destination Wedding ?
How do I go about making the right choice when hiring a DJ in Key West, Florida ?
Selecting the right Destination Disc Jockey is perhaps the most essential step in your event planning process; the entertainment that you choose for your wedding reception will be the key factor in determining just how much fun you and your guests will have. Your dance floor will be the barometer that success is measured by and good music and loads of dancing will be remembered by your guests long after the lights go down. The first step is to check with your wedding planner if you have one, ask for recommendations from your hotel staff and visit some Key West wedding DJ Web sites. The DJ’s Web site should give you a good idea of what services they offer, what kind of equipment they use, and what their prices are.
Next, be sure to check with your DJ to see if all microphones, Especially a wireless microphone, and dancefloor lights are included in the price. After that, ask questions about music choices and selection. Your DJ should be able to provide a wide variety of music and in some cases, may be able to provide you with an “unlimited” song list. Make sure you check with your DJ about specific music you want, and also, just as importantly, what you don’t want. Your DJ should be able to play music spanning many generations and be able to entertain everyone of all age groups at the party, not just a few, and should keep the dance floor busy with different choices for different groups throughout the evening.
Your DJ may also be able to also download music on the spot to accommodate any last minute requests the bride or wedding guests might have. (This is possible at most Key West locations by simply going on-line while on site.)
A much-overlooked fact is that the DJ is also the MC at most receptions. Starting with the introductions of your bridal party and working towards you as Mr. and Mrs., your DJ/MC should be able to keep the party on schedule, make all announcements throughout the night, talk to people about their favorite music and encourage them to dance by asking for requests, by being personable and entertaining. It is also your DJ/MC’s job to make your Bouquet and Garter Toss fun, and get everyone involved in your party by suggesting other things like Anniversary or Dollar dances if you would like.
Sometimes overlooked is that hiring a DJ for your ceremony as well will not only provide you with music of your choice for your guests while they are being seated and waiting, in addition the DJ can play a very wide variety of processional and recessional music too.
For Ceremonies the DJ should also supply a lapel microphone (wireless), for the officiate or groom to wear for amplification of your wedding vows so that all your guests will be able to hear. This is helpful if there is a breeze that carries sound away from your guests, which is typical for most outdoor locations.
Lastly, but most importantly, if you are going to be in town sometime before your wedding, Make sure you set aside some time to meet with your DJ. You will probably not have much time to discuss anything with them before your Reception has begun, and meeting the person who will have a profound impact on your party will provide both you and your DJ the opportunity to get to know each other better, talk about concerns you may have, go over any paperwork, like song requests and contracts, and be sure you are on the same page. That way you can be sure that your party is your party, and that your DJ is going to do their very best to ensure you and your guests the best time possible.
