That is what it is all about. Wedding True Stories Leading up to a wedding for a great couple I have had the privilege to work with had been a joy. Tucson weather had been just beautiful and all the info coming from the Tabitha (The Bride) was great and on time. She lived in Tennessee and the weather there had not been great to say the least. She was looking forward to arriving in sunny AZ.
She arrived a week before the wedding and was in a mad rush to get all the arrangements nailed down. In the process she came down with the stomach flu but still in good spirits to continue on. After all the weather still was awesome.
April 11th, 2009 the wedding day. Forecast...RAIN AND COLD! I arrived way early as I always do and set everything I could inside the reception, awaiting the word from Audra (The Banquet Manager) whether or not they were going to plan B. Me knowing how bad Tabitha wanted an outdoor wedding knew it would be called either way at the last minute either way (my gut always knew outdoors). One and a half hours before the ceremony the sky broke and sun was shinning. But clouds and rain was still present all around us. An hour goes by and no rain. But still signs of H2O near. By now it was decision time as I need to get set. Everyone was reluctant to call it Plan B as they knew too that she wanted an out door wedding. Finally I spoke up and said I can get my tarp and if the rain comes, I can cover it. But I also reiterated that the guests would not have cover. That was all they needed to hear as everyone rushed outside. As soon as I was set, Audra said we are starting early as dark clouds loomed closer. The music was perfect and everyone looked beautiful as they walked down the isle. Next Tabitha and her father proceeded to the alter and then the minister asked who gives this woman to be wed to this man...It hit...rain. I covered my equipment but still kept it on. I even stood out in the rain and held an umbrella for all the readers.
The ceremony lasted about 15 minutes and the rain never let up. But the great part was that NO one left. Every one of her guests stayed until the very end (by the way when they were pronounced it stopped raining)! Chris Richards the photographer was taking pictures still. I was still broadcasting. The minister kept preaching. Tab & Jim were smiling. All were there for a reason. To give these two people married and give them something special.
When everyone arrived to the reception indoors they all looked like drowned rats. The Hilton staff cranked up the heat as guests proceeded to warm up and dry out. NOT ONE Single guest complained. They all smiled and laughed. Audra and I conversed on this is a first and laughed it off as well. We both knew Tabitha may need some cheering up when she arrived for her Grand Entrance so we prepared.
When Tabitha and Jim arrived they were in good spirits. The guests greeted them with a thunderous applause like it was the best ceremony they had every been too. I could tell Tab & Jim were so relieved, yet happy with whatever happened.
Dinner was about to start and knowing the rain might dampen the mood I wrote down a few words and proceeded to say: Rain means life. Without it we would not survive. Much like each of you, none would survive without your love for each other. With rain, flowers bloom brighter, grass is greener and it cleanses all things. I heard someone say, "Rain on a wedding day is all the old boyfriend/girlfriends crying over the one that got away." Tab and Jim you sure had a lot of boyfriend/girlfriends. (This got a huge laugh) So rejoice as with this rain, comes a new life. Cleaner, brighter and more beautiful than anyone can imagine. Next time it rains, everyone think of this day and smile. Because Jim & Tabitha joined hearts on such a beautiful day.
The rest of the night went perfect. Tabitha, Jim and all their guests had the time of their lives. By the way not one single guest left till the end. That is what it is all about. Everyone making sure someone else is happy. In return we all were happy. I for one will not forget this wedding and even though you didn't attend I hope you don't either.
